Gentle to start. Deep enough for a lifetime.
Tai Chi Chuan is a traditional Chinese martial art practiced today as a moving meditation, a health practice, and, when a student wants it, a study of balance, timing, and self-defense. The Alliance teaches the health path first. The martial root is not hidden.
Balance and fall prevention.
Slow weight-shifting trains the legs and the inner ear together.
A quieter nervous system.
Coordinated breath and movement give the mind something useful to do.
A craft, not a fad.
There is always another layer of form, application, or teaching skill.
Joints that need kindness.
The work is low-impact. Many students come after surgery or with arthritis.
Strength you can use.
You leave class more stable, not worn out.
Who it is for
Adults, including older adults and people with limited mobility or special needs. Complete beginners are welcome. So are experienced players and teachers. You do not need to be flexible or “good at exercise.” You need a little floor space, a way to see the screen, and curiosity.
Online on purpose
Ron has taught through video since the VHS era. Zoom is not a compromise for the Alliance; it is how students in the U.S., the U.K., and farther away get live lessons every week. Several reviewers became instructors without living in Wisconsin.
